WILD FLOWER MEADOW
NPAC organizes regular workdays to maintain the meadow. Volunteers have the opportunities to learn about native plants, gardening basics, and restoration ecology. Activities include invasive plant removal, native plantings, litter pickup, trail mulching, as well as nature-based activities like birding and plant identification. Meet at East 54th St. at the end of the cul-de-sac off S. Kimbark Ave. Dress appropriate for working in brush, including close-toed shoes. Tools and gloves will be provided, or bring your own. SECC annually sponsors the Shirley J. Newsome Neighborhood Beautification Grants. The program provides micro-grants to neighborhood organizations and groups to support beautification and revitalization projects that enhance the physical attractiveness and quality of life within Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, Washington Park and Woodlawn communities. The Garden Fair is pleased to provide financial support for this program.
